About the Senior Assessment Center
The Senior Assessment Center is an off-shoot of a 10 year longitudinal study initiated by Dr. Jenny Batongmalaque, a geriatrician and family practitioner. This landmark study documents the quality of life for Filipino WWII Veterans residing in South Bay.
The Senior Assessment Center looks in to the following 5 aspects of senior welfare:
- Physical condition
- Mental and psycho-social status
- Support systems
- Environmental check
- Personal values
In 1997, The Senior Assessment Center was established by The Erasto R. Batongmalaque Foundation and continues to serve senior veterans today. When a veteran presents him/herself with unmet needs, a basic procedure goes into action. First, an initial interview with a volunteer Doctor or Case Manager is conducted. Second, a quality of life quotient is determined and the needs are prioritized before a plan is developed by the Doctor and/or Case Manager. Finally, the veteran is referred to the community’s resources and invited to join the corps of SAC volunteers.
